Wordpress 2.5.1 xmlrpc.php and HTTP 500 errors
Written by shawnmor on May 31, 2008 – 9:58 pmUPDATE: Damn. It looks like there’s some signals getting crossed when I enable the Profilactic plug-in. It has a dependency on the SimplePie plugin, which is where I think the error lies. I’m bummed, cause I really like the Prophilactic service, and their Wordpress plugin. Unfortunately, I’m not seeing other mentions of this problem.
Since upgrading to Wordpress 2.5.1, I receive HTTP 500 errors against the xmlrpc.php file whenever I try to post an entry using Windows Live Writer, or ScribeFire. I’ve tried everything I can think of - chmod’ing files, reinstalling WP files, etc. I even found folks having similar errors saying it was because of junk at the end of the xmlrpc.php file. I still get the errors. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I sure would appreciate a comment or an email…

Easier Email from WordPress
Written by shawnmor on May 4, 2008 – 8:37 pmvia Blogging Pro I found a nice little WordPress plug-in that cleans up the email notifications you receive when someone leaves a comment. If you run a WordPress blog, do yourself a favor and subscribe to Blogging Pro…
While searching for a solution with an comment notification issue problem, I stumbled upon Clean Notifications by Mike Davidson, of Newsvine fame.
What does Clean Notifactions do?
Since WP sends out plain text emails, all of the links get spelled out as raw, unstyled URLs and the emails end up containing probably twice the amount of visible characters than they need to. This is especially frustrating when you’re trying to read notifications from a mobile device like the Jesusphone.
…
Enter “Clean Notifications“. A plug-in that took only 30 minutes to write but is capable of providing digital pleasure to people all around the world. If you receive many comment notifications from your WordPress blog and have no problems with HTML mail, this small plugin will make your WordPress trip more enjoyable.
Visit the plugin blog entry to view the difference before and after at Mike’s blog.

Wordpress tag support in Windows Live Writer
Written by shawnmor on April 10, 2008 – 7:45 amI learned something new last night from Becky. I’ve been looking for a way to insert Wordpress tags into my posts using Windows Live Writer. Writer has great support for inserting tags from a lot of different sources, including del.icio.us, Flickr, Technorati, and others. Unfortunately, Wordpress isn’t on that list. Fortunately, there’s an easier way, although it isn’t obvious. Writer can insert keywords into a post, and if it is a Wordpress blog, Writer converts those keywords into Wordpress tags. The feature is hidden at first – look at the bottom of the new post screen and click the double down arrow.
Thanks Becky. Very cool.

Test drive Wordpress themes
Written by shawnmor on April 6, 2008 – 8:18 pmSomeone finally wrote a WP plugin that lets you test drive a new theme on your site, without making any changes to the site until you’re ready. WP should ship this one natively.
Download this one now if you’re running WP
